When to Observe Dhul Hijjah Waxing (NEW) Crescent ?


The geocentric conjunction (Geocentric New Moon) will occur Inshalla on (Monday 21 August 2017) at 18:30 UT.

Sighting the new crescent on (Monday 21 August 2017) and (Tuesday 22 August 2017) is shown in the below graphs using the program Accurate Times by Mohammad Odeh according to Odeh criterion. Where:-

According to the Universal Hejric Calendar (UHC), which is based on the calculated crescent visibility, the start of this month in the Eastern Region will be on Wedensday 23 August 2017 and in the Western Region will be on Wedensday 23 August 2017. Kindly notice that the UHC is a pre-calculated calendar, which adopts a certain criterion to start the new Hejric month. Your country/organization might adopt different criterion to start the new Hejric month. So it is highly advised to read the UHC website before giving any judgment.

[ ] The Hilal of Dzulhijjah 1438 AH was NOT SIGHTED on Tuesday, August 22nd, 2017 from Sukuh Hill Karanganyar Central Java Indonesia. The wes horizon was hazy and the hilal position covered by thick clouds.

This event was attended by Mayor and Vice Mayor of Karanganyar District, Team of Gara -Syariah Ministry of Religious Affairs of Karanganyar and more than 100 moslem. Team of CASA, Solo Astro Club and Rowasiya Obs.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in the Sidang Isbath decided that Dzulhijjah 1st, 1438 A.H starts on Wednesday, August 23, 2017.

Date: Tuesday, 08/22/2017
Location: Damzad foothills in the East of Shahreza (latitude: 32 00 N, longitude: 51 52 E, elevation: 1825m from sea level, time zone: +4.5 GMT)
Equipments: Two sets of 15*70 binoculars, One sets of 20*90 binoculars, One sets of 25*100 binoculars One sets of 7*50 binoculars, One compass.
Atmospheric condition: hazy.
Horizon obstacles: 1/5°
Apparent Sunset: 19:28
Apparent Moonset: 20:00
Results: Moon crescent was seen by 15*70 binoculars by Hossein Janghorbani at 19:44 and was seen by 25*100 binoculars by Ali Janghorbani at 19:54 and was seen by 20*90 binoculars by Reza Janghorbani at 19:58, for the first time.

Mr. Walid Jadar said: "أعلنت وزارة الأوقاف والشؤون الإسلامية أن فاتح شهر ذي الحجة لعام 1438 ه هو يوم غد الأربعاء، وأن عيد الأضحى المبارك هو يوم الجمعة فاتح شتنبر 2017 م.

وفي ما يلي نص بلاغ الوزارة: " تنهي وزارة الأوقاف والشؤون الإسلامية إلى علم المواطنين أنها راقبت هلال شهر ذي الحجة لعام 1438هـ ، بعد مغرب يوم الثلاثاء 29 ذي القعدة 1438 هـ موافق 22 غشت 2017 م، فثبتت لديها رؤية الهلال ثبوتا شرعيا.

وعليه فإن فاتح شهر ذي الحجة هو يوم غد الأربعاء 23 غشت 2017 م ، وعيد الأضحى المبارك هو يوم الجمعة 10 ذي الحجة 1438هـ موافق فاتح شتنبر 2017 م.

أهل الله هذا الشهر المبارك وعيد الأضحى السعيد على مولانا أمير المؤمنين وحامي حمى الوطن والدين صاحب الجلالة الملك محمد السادس نصره الله باليمن والبركات، وعلى ولي العهد صاحب السمو الملكي الأمير الجليل مولاي الحسن، وسائر أفراد أسرته الملكية الشريفة بالخير والبشر، وعلى الشعب المغربي، والأمة الإسلامية قاطبة بالرقي والازدهار والأمن والهناء. إنه سميع مجيب"."

Prof. Mohammed Al-Bussaidi said: "تمت رؤية الهلال بواسطة  الـسي سي دي كاميرا ملحقة بالتلسكوب بعد غروب الشمس رغم وجود كمية كبيره من السحب اثناء ذلك."



Saudi Arabia

Mr. Turki Alamri said: "the sky was cloudy and so bad condition but i managed to catch it for half a minute only during daytime .
after sunset the western horizon was fully clouded so no chance to see the new crescent"



2 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Eng. Qamar Uddin from Makkah City in Makkah Province State mentioned that the sky was totally cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Eng. Qamar Uddin said: "On Wednesday 22 August 2017, I was in Makkah and had arranged to join the Makkah Hilal Committee observation site in Al-Shumasi about 30 km outside Masjid ul Haram. Unfortunately, due to travel restrictions on the pilgrims, I was unable to join the committee. However, they did inform me of their negative sighting. It was totally cloudy in Masjid ul Haram area in addition to high light pollution, so negative sighting too"

Mr. Abdul Rahman Razeen said: "Aalaikum.
Today 22-08-2017CE=29-11-1438AH is the sighting day for the month of Dhul-Hijjah 1438AH in Srilanka.
 I was at Colombo Grand Mosque and associated the decision panel.

  * The Crescent Visibility is: Visible With Optical Aid, Could Be Seen By Naked Eye.

To avoid erroneous, Hilaal sighting groups was arranged right round the country.
Negative reports received CGM as it was cloudy right round Srilanka. 
        Hence the Hilaal Committee conference at CGM which comprises CGM Trustees,CGM Hilaal Committee,ACJU Hilaal Committee,representatives of MRCA and Hanafi Jumuah Masjid  decided under the leadership of the CGMH Committee president Moulana Abdul Hameed (Bahji) along with ACJU and MRCA  to complete the proceeding month as 30 days and start the month of Dhui-Hijjah on 24-8-2017CE. As per the decision the day of Arafah falls on 1st of September and Eid on 2nd of September.

Dr. Javad Torabinejad said: "I arrived at my sighting location to join a friend a few minutes before sunset (sunset: 8:04 pm EDT).  Using binoculars, my friend and I started scanning the western horizon.  The lower portion of the horizon was cloudy.  We ended the session prior to moonset (moonset: 8:49 pm)."

Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi said: "The daytime moon was sighted on Sunday 20 August 2017 about 4 hours after sunrise from Rowasiya Observatory Bendo Ketitang Juwiring Klaten Central Java Indonesia. "

I was at Colombo at my house couldn't sight the crescent. The horizon was partly cloudy.
 Negative sighting reports also came from Pottuvil by Moulavi Abdul Hai (Rashady), Thihariya by Moulavi Mazeen Al-Makhdoomy (Hasani), Kinniya by Moulavi faizal (Rahmany) .
