Using a pair of binoculars (7X50), I scanned the horizon to find Venus as it could have been a great guide to locate this month's crescent. In the past two evenings and earlier today around 1:00 pm, I had seen the planet through binoculars only. Despite the clear sky, my daytime sighting of the crescent was unsuccessful. This evening, my first binocular sighting of Venus was at 4:56 pm. Then, I tried looking for the crescent moon with the pair of binoculars in addition to a pair of 10x50 binoculars with no success. I did not see the nearby Mercury either. At 5:25 pm Venus disappeared below clouds hugging the horizon. At that time, I decided to end my sighting efforts and leave the area since due to the topography and the clouds there was no chance to see the moon (moonset 5:31 pm)."
