When to Observe Muharram Waxing (NEW) Crescent ?


The geocentric conjunction (Geocentric New Moon) will occur Inshalla on (Sunday 08 August 2021) at 13:50 UT.

Sighting the new crescent on (Sunday 08 August 2021) and (Monday 9 August 2021) is shown in the below graphs using the program Accurate Times by Mohammad Odeh according to Odeh criterion. Where:-

According to the Universal Hejric Calendar (UHC), which is based on the calculated crescent visibility, the start of this month in the Eastern Region will be on Tuesday 10 August 2021 and in the Western Region will be on Monday 09 August 2021. Kindly notice that the UHC is a pre-calculated calendar, which adopts a certain criterion to start the new Hejric month. Your country/organization might adopt different criterion to start the new Hejric month. So it is highly advised to read the UHC website before giving any judgment.

Mr. Abdellatif Fareh said: "اعتمادا على الضوابط الفلكية لشهر محرم اليوم الأحد و التي تدل على عدم إمكانية رؤية الهلال،  قام النادي الفلكي بتحري الهلال،  و لم تثبت رؤيته. "

Mr. Sami Al-Harbi said: "حاولت رصد هلال محرم لكن لم أتمكن من ذلك علماً ان رؤية الهلال غير ممكنة بسبب قربه من الأفق و ضعف الإضاءة للقمر "



Tunisia

Mr. Naser Barbourah said: "كانت السماء غائمة جزئيا  نظرا لكثرة الرطوبة ولم اتمكن من رؤية  الهلال لا بالعين المجردة ولا بواسطة المنظار المزدوج .
وحسب البرامج الفلكية الدقيقة لم يرى اليوم نظرا لمكثه قليلا بعد غروب الشمس و قريب جدا منها."



United States


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Mr. Jim Stamm from Tucson City in Arizona State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not sought by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was seen by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Jim Stamm said: "At 19:40 the crescent was seen intermittently for 2 minutes.  The location, orientation and image was as expected, but I was never able to get a steady and continuous image, so I do not want to claim a definite positive observation.

Mr. Abdellatif Fareh said: "الحمد لله حمدا مباركا فيه،  تمت بحمد الله رؤية هلال شهر محرم اليوم الإثنين من طرف النادي الفلكي بكوينين بالاستعانة بالمنظار أولا ثم تم تصويره بالتلسكوب،  ثم ثبتت رؤيته بالعين المجردة. "

Seen: ICOP member Mr. Banouh Nouh Mefnoune from تافيلالت City in غرداية State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Banouh Nouh Mefnoune said: "بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم، اللهم صل و سلم على سيدنا محمد وعلى آله وصحبه. لقد تمت والحمد لله رؤية هلال محرم ١٤٤٣ بالعين المجردة دون اللجوء للآلة، ولكن تمت بصعوبة بسبب السماء المغبرة، كانت أول مشاهدة حوالي ٨ دقائق قبل أحسن وقت للرصد المقدر من برنامج المواقيت الدقيقة، وكان الهلال خافتا جدا مشيرا بقرنيه إلى الساعة ٢ و ٧ مرتفعا بحوالي أصبعين فوق الأفق مع مدّ الذراع (حوالي ٥ درجات) ومبتعدا عن موضع غروب الشمس بنفس المقدار تقريبا إلى اليسار. 
أتمنى من المشاركين بالعين المجردة تحديد ما إذا استعانوا بالآلة أوّلاً أم لا، و ذكر فارق الوقت بالنسبة لأحسن وقت للرصد. وشكرا.
اللّهم اجعل هذا الشهر فتحا على المسلمين آمين. "

Mr. Samir Al-Busnavi said: " The hill Žuč ,Sarajevo,Bosnia and Herzegovina
 I tried to take a photo with the camera on the phone through binoculars, but without success."

Eng. Gerhard Ahmad  Kaufmann said: "Very thin crescent, but easily visible with binoculars about 20 minutes after sunset. Seeing it with naked eyes was very difficult because of some distant cloud streaks and a light haze over the horizon. Sana sa`îda to all."



Indonesia

Mr. ِِِArwinjuli said: "Hilal di Medan tidak terlihat dikarenakan langit di ufuk barat berawan tebal, walaupun ketinggiannya 10 derajat."

Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi said: "The new crescent of Muharram 1443  AH was seen on Monday, August 09, 2021 from Assalaam Observatory, PPMI Assalaam at Pabelan Kartasura Sukoharjo Central Java Indonesia. 

The sky was hazy, the moon was captured via computerised telescope and not sighted by naked eye.

Location: Damzad foothills in the East of Shahreza (latitude: 32 00 N, longitude: 51 52 E, elevation: 1825m from sea level, time zone: +4.5 GMT)
Equipments: One set of 20*90 binocular, Three set of 15*70 binoculars, One set of 30*60 binocular, One set of 7*50 binocular, One compass.
Atmospheric condition: partly cloudy and Hazy 
Horizon obstacles: about 2°
Apparent Sunset: --:--
Results: Moon crescent was seen by 20*90 binoculars and by 15*70 binoculars by Ali Janghorbani and Hossein Janghorbani at 20:02, for the first time.
 Other group members observed crescent by binoculars subsequently.
Moon crescent was seen by naked eye by Reza Janghorbani And Roya Ghermezi at 20:03 , for the first time. Other group members observed crescent by naked eye subsequently.

Mr. Abdel Rahman Al-Bastaki said: "لم أتمكن من رؤيه هلال شهر محرّم لعام ١٤٤٣ هـ بسبب وجود الغيوم المتقطعه حتى أنني لم أستطع رؤيه كوكب الزهره الذي دائماً أراه ، هذا و الحمدلله رب العالمين . "



United Kingdom


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Eng. Qamar Uddin from York City in North Yorkshire State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not seen by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Eng. Qamar Uddin said: "There were 7 astronomers from the York Astronomical Society (with 3 guests) who went to Sutton Bank (Thirsk, UK) for a Moon Sighting challenge. The weather was partly cloudy before sunset, but it became totally cloudy where the moon was expected so it was not seen. However, other places in the UK had better luck to see it, Alhamdulillah (see bit.ly/Results1443-01)."



United States


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Dr. Javad Torabinejad from Blacksburg City in Virginia State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was very hazy, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Dr. Javad Torabinejad said: "I arrived at my sighting location at 8:15 pm EDT (sunset: 8:22 pm).  The western horizon was partly cloudy and very hazy.  Using a pair of binoculars (7X50), I started scanning the horizon.  I sighted Venus with the binoculars and with naked eye at 8:24 and 8:25 pm, respectively.  My first binocular sighting of the moon was around 8:53 pm when the moon was appearing in an opening.  Immediately after, I could see the crescent with naked eye.  If not because of the clouds, the moon could have been sighted much earlier.  The horns were approximately at 2:30 and 6:30 O'clock (2:30;4:30;6:30).  I left my sighting location at 9:06 pm when the moon disappeared behind the clouds hugging the horizon (moonset: 9:28 pm)."

The daytime moon crescent was captured by mr. M. Yusuf from Bosscha Observatory at Lembang Bandung West Java."
