When to Observe Rabee' Al-Awwal Waxing (NEW) Crescent ?


The geocentric conjunction (Geocentric New Moon) will occur Inshalla on (Sunday 25 September 2022) at 21:54 UT.

Sighting the new crescent on (Sunday 25 September 2022) and (Monday 26 September 2022) is shown in the below graphs using the program Accurate Times by Mohammad Odeh according to Odeh criterion. Where:-

According to the Universal Hejric Calendar (UHC), which is based on the calculated crescent visibility, the start of this month in the Eastern Region will be on Tuesday 27 September 2022 and in the Western Region will be on Tuesday 27 September 2022. Kindly notice that the UHC is a pre-calculated calendar, which adopts a certain criterion to start the new Hejric month. Your country/organization might adopt different criterion to start the new Hejric month. So it is highly advised to read the UHC website before giving any judgment.

Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. Mohammad Alhabib Janahani from قمار City in الوادي State mentioned that the sky was totally cloudy, the atmospheric condition was very hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging

Seen: ICOP member Dr. Javad Torabinejad from Blacksburg City in Virginia State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not sought by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Dr. Javad Torabinejad said: "A friend of mine and I arrived at our sighting location at 6:32 pm EDT (apparent sunset: 7:08 pm).  The western horizon was partly cloudy and hazy.  My friend and I both were using binoculars (his was a 10x50 and mine a 7X50).  At times we checked for the crescent prior to sunset.  The first binocular sighting was at around 7:29 pm; the crescent was very thin.  I could see it only for a few seconds before it disappeared behind the clouds.  While my friend could not locate the crescent with his pair of binoculars, neither of us could see the moon with naked eye.  With no success, we waited to see if the crescent could be seen in the opening below the clouds by the horizon.  We left the area after moonset (moonset: 7:45pm).  The picture shows the sky condition in the western horizon; I was unable to capture the crescent's image."

Qamar Uddin from York City in North Yorkshire State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Eng. Qamar Uddin said: "It was totally cloudy most of York (Elvington Airfield) today (27/9/2022) but fortunately, there was a clear patch between two banks of dark clouds at sunset so the moon was seen by the two of us (myself, Qamar Uddin and Dr Bashir Dudo) just before it set, Alhamdulillah. We saw it with binoculars at 19:19 hrs (at 0.5° alt) and quickly took a photo with a Nikon Coolpix P600 camera before we lost it in the dark bank of clouds sitting on the horizon. 

Note that our UK members saw both the waning crescent moon (Quran 36:39) on 24/9/2022 at 6:22 hrs BST and the waxing crescent moon (Quran 2:189) on 27/9/2022 at 19:19 hrs BST, Alhamdulillah."

1 . Time of observation: Before sunset . Seen: ICOP member Dr. Javad Torabinejad from Blacksburg City in Virginia State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Dr. Javad Torabinejad said: "This evening (Tuesday, Sept 27, 2022), the crescent moon was sighted in Blacksburg, VA (Lat: 37° 15' 40" N, Lng: 80° 26' 56" W, and elevation: 646 meters).  Using a pair of binoculars (7X50), around 2:00 pm EDT, I started looking for the crescent.  At 2:09 pm, I sighted it.  It took me more than an hour to see the crescent with naked eye at 3:24 pm (and perhaps I saw it at 3:08 pm also).  The horns were approximately at 12:00 and 4:00 O'clock (12:00;2:00;4:00).  Later in the day, I went for an evening sighting.  I arrived at my sighting location at 6:56 pm (apparent sunset: 7:02 pm).  The western horizon was mostly clear and hazy.  Using a pair of binoculars (7X50), I located the crescent at 7:57 pm.  At 7:04 pm, I saw the crescent with naked eye.  The horns were approximately at 1:30 and 6:30 O'clock (1:30;4:00;6:30).  I left the sighting location shortly after the moonset (apparent moonset: about 8:08 pm).  The temperature, humidity, and pressure data are for the afternoon sighting and not for the evening."

Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi said: "The old crescent of Shafar 1444 AH was seen on Saturday, 24 of September 2022 from Rowasiya Observatory at Bendo Ketitang Juwiring Klaten Central Java Indonesia. The sky was clear."

Qamar Uddin said: "We are encouraging our UK members to watch both the waning moon (Urjunil Qadim) and the waxing moon (Hilal), as we fast approach the Lunar Standstills, so we can estimate the duration of the invisible New Moon Phase (Mahaq). I could see the waning moon yesterday (23/9/2022) from York but it was too cloudy this morning so I could not see it. However, it was seen by Br Juned Patel from Bolton (UK) this morning (Alhamdulillah), which will probably be the last phase of the Safar 1444 waning (old) moon from the UK."

Mr. Ibrahem Abdulkareem  Dives said: "بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم، لم نتمكنمن رؤية هلال اخر شهر صفر الخير ليوم 25 سبتمبر، ولعدة اسباب منها الاجواء ومكان تواجد الهلال وفترة بقائه القليلة 
شكراً..."

Dr. Belal Alshammaa said: "لم أتمكن من رؤية هلال آخر شهر صفر هذا الصباح؛ وقد رأيت كوكب الزهرة بوضوح الذي كان أقرب من الهلال إلى الأفق بقليل. الصور المرفقة هي لكوكب الزهرة قبيل شروق الشمس بحوالي عشرة دقائق وسبعة دقائق"
