When to Observe Rajab Waxing (NEW) Crescent ?


The geocentric conjunction (Geocentric New Moon) will occur Inshalla on (Friday 10 May 2013) at 00:29 UT.

Sighting the new crescent on (Friday 10 May 2013) and (Saturday 11 May 2013) is shown in the below graphs using the program Accurate Times by Mohammad Odeh according to Odeh criterion. Where:-

According to the Universal Hejric Calendar (UHC), which is based on the calculated crescent visibility, the start of this month in the Eastern Region will be on Saturday 11 May 2013 and in the Western Region will be on Saturday 11 May 2013. Kindly notice that the UHC is a pre-calculated calendar, which adopts a certain criterion to start the new Hejric month. Your country/organization might adopt different criterion to start the new Hejric month. So it is highly advised to read the UHC website before giving any judgment.

Algeria


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. Hocine Chikh Aissa from Ghardaia City in Ghardaia State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Hocine Chikh Aissa said: "07 persones try to observe the Rajab 1434 crescent from N'tissa station, the sky was hazy.the crescent was not seen"



Indonesia


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi from Surakarta City in Central Java State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not seen by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging

Pakistan


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. Alam Sultan from karachi City in sindh State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was very hazy, the crescent was not sought by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Alam Sultan said: "Today (Friday, May 10, 2013=29 Juma-dath-thaniah 1434 in Pakistan). We tried to sight the moon at nearly 25 places countrywide but not sighted. Also announced officially non sighting thus Saturday is 30th and Sunday is 1st Rajab 1434 in Pakistan. 
"

Tunisia


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. Bilel Besbes from المنستير City in المنستير State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging



United Kingdom


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Eng. Qamar Uddin from York City in North Yorkshire State mentioned that the sky was totally cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Eng. Qamar Uddin said: "On Friday 10 May 2013 (29 Jumada Al-Ukhra 1434 AH) many people from the UK have attempted to sight the crescent moon (Hilal) of Rajab after sunset. None of the groups were able to sight the Hilal, as most places were cloudy.

We have not received any reliable sighting report (Muhaqaq-Ruyat-Basari) from any locations east of the UK/Morocco either. The Morocco Awqaf Ministry have also confirmed a negative sighting report.

Therefore, the Wifaq/Batley Ulama have decided that the month of Jumada Al-Ukhra 1434 AH will complete 30-days and the  month of Rajab 1434 AH will start from Sunday 12 May 2013, Insha-Allah."



United States


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. Milad Ali Ershaghi from Houston City in TEXAS State mentioned that the sky was totally cloudy, the atmospheric condition was very hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Milad Ali Ershaghi said: "Sunset was at 8:05pm and moonset was at 9:43pm in Houston, Texas, and the moon was 3% illuminated at an altitude of 79.3 degrees and azimuth of 293 degrees. My daughter and I looked for the moon from 9:05-9:20pm - but the sky was completely overcast and we could not see the moon."

Bahrain


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Eng. Ali Majeed Al Hajari from مدينة عيسى City in الوسطى State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Eng. Ali Majeed Al Hajari said: "تم رؤية هلال شهر رجب بعد 18 دقيقة من بعد غروب الشمس وسط اجواء صافية نسبيا."

Time of observation: After sunset.Seen by others: ICOP member Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi from Surakarta City in Central Java State mentioned that the sky was totally cloudy, the atmospheric condition was very hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not seen by telescope, the crescent was not seen by CCD Imaging
Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi said: "The New Crescent of Rajab 1434 AH was NOT SEEN from Assalaam Observatory, Surakarta Central Java Indonesia. The west sky was totally cloudy. But the Hilal was sighted from Al-Buruj Observatory, Kudus Indonesia by my friend Mr. Joko Prasetyo."

Seen: ICOP member Dr. Abdurrazak Ebrahim from Cape Town City in Western Cape State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Dr. Abdurrazak Ebrahim said: "Rajab Hilaal easily seen by naked-eye from my home in the Zeekoevlei Nature Reserve. approximately 40 km east of Cape Town."



2 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Mr. Abe Parker from Cape Town City in Western Cape State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Abe Parker said: "thin reddish haze on horizon about 4 degrees altitude, saw moon with binoculars before naked eye sighting  "



Tunisia

United Arab Emirates


1 . Time of observation: After sunset.Photographed: ICOP member Eng. Mohammad Odeh from Abu Dhabi City in Abu Dhabi State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was superb, the crescent was not sought by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not seen by telescope, the crescent was seen by CCD Imaging
Eng. Mohammad Odeh said: "This is a daylight observation. The crescent was not seen by telescope, but it was seen by CCD imaging. The TOD was 0.341 and the AOD was 0.194. The first photo below is the crescent with 807 nm IR filter and 50 stacked frames. The second photo without any filter and with one single frame only, the only thing done on this photo is a slight contrast enhancement. The third photo without any filter and with 50 stacked frames."



United States


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Dr. Javad Torabinejad from Blacksburg City in Virginia State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Dr. Javad Torabinejad said: "The western horizon was partly cloudy.  I arrived at my sighting location at 8:13 pm EDT (sunset: 8:20 pm).  Using a pair of binoculars (7X50), at 8:17 pm I sighted Venus followed by a naked eye sighting.  At 8:21 pm, I sighted the crescent through the binoculars and immediately after by the naked eye.  The horns were at 3:00 and 7:00 O'clock (3:00;5:00;7:00).  To take the pictures, I had to travel to another location since the moon disappeared behind clouds.  I left the location prior to moonset (moonset: 9:58 pm).  Yesterday, I did not try sighting the crescent since the sky was completely cloudy."

1 . Time of observation: Before sunrise. Not Seen: ICOP member Dr. Z.Sani Mustapha from kaduna City in kaduna State mentioned that the sky was totally cloudy, the atmospheric condition was very hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Dr. Z.Sani Mustapha said: "The crescent was seen on the 26th J.Thani at 4.36 a.m. Ideally,it could be seen today at around 5.20 a.m"

Germany


1 . Time of observation: Before sunrise.Photographed: ICOP member Eng. Martin Elsaesser from Munich City in Bavaria State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was not sought by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was seen by CCD Imaging
Eng. Martin Elsaesser said: "The weather was unstable on this day, so the crescent could not be found before sunrise. Around 11:00 we got gaps in the clouds and the crescent could be imaged at 7° elongation, despite tons of pollen and insects flying through the field of view. Sadly, the clouds closed again so the occultation of mars by the crescent later that day could not be seen. Next chance for that: 2022!"
