When to Observe Rajab Waxing (NEW) Crescent ?


The geocentric conjunction (Geocentric New Moon) will occur Inshalla on (Saturday 21 January 2023) at 20:53 UT.

Sighting the new crescent on (Saturday 21 January 2023) and (Sunday 22 January 2023) is shown in the below graphs using the program Accurate Times by Mohammad Odeh according to Odeh criterion. Where:-

According to the Universal Hejric Calendar (UHC), which is based on the calculated crescent visibility, the start of this month in the Eastern Region will be on Monday 23 January 2023 and in the Western Region will be on Monday 23 January 2023. Kindly notice that the UHC is a pre-calculated calendar, which adopts a certain criterion to start the new Hejric month. Your country/organization might adopt different criterion to start the new Hejric month. So it is highly advised to read the UHC website before giving any judgment.

Algeria


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Dr. Younes Rakour from باتنة City in باتنة State mentioned that the sky was totally cloudy, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Dr. Younes Rakour said: "أجواء باردة ومثلجة حالت دون رؤية هلال شهر رجب 1444 هـ"



2 . Time of observation: After sunset.Seen by others: ICOP member Mr. Banouh Nouh Mefnoune from كدية الشوف - القرارة City in غرداية State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Banouh Nouh Mefnoune said: "بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم، الحمد لله، والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله، سيدنا محمد وعلى آله و صحبه ومن والاه، شهد لدينا الأخ مجاهد خير الدين من بلدة القرارة ولاية غرداية عن رؤيته لهلال رجب ١٤٤٤ من منطقة كدية الشوف وفي الجهة التي دلّت عليها حسابات برنامج المواقيت الدقيقة وبرنامج stellarium، وتمت المشاهدة مباشرة بالعين المجردة بعد الاستدلال بكوكب الزهرة وبالقياسات اليدوية التقريبية دون الاستعانة بأي آلة، و كان بالجو في تلك البلدة ضباب (أو غبار) نوعا ما، خاصة عند الشريط المحاذي للأفق الذي كان رماديا داكن اللون، و تلاه من فوق نطاق أصفر فيه شوهد الهلال، ثم تلاه فوقه نطاق فاتح اللون قبل السماء الزرقاء التي فيها شوهد كوكب الزهرة، وبما أن الأخ غير متمرس في رؤية الأهلة لم يسجل الأوقات فسأحاول حصرها اعتمادا على أول إخبار بالمشاهدة ثم استجوابي له عند لقائه:
- وصل هو وشخص آخر إلى الموقع للحظات بعد غروب الشمس، 
- بحث الراصدان عن دليلهما (كوكب الزهرة) بالاستعانة ببرنامج لعلمهما المسبق بأن الهلال سيكون مباشرة تحت الكوكب بحوالي ١٢ درجة، فتمكن الأخ من رؤيتها ثم رآها رفيقه،
- وقد شاهد الأخ مع الزهرة نجما آخر أعلى منها وعلى يمينها لم أتمكن من تحديده،
- بحث الأخ عن الهلال تحت الزهرة بمقدار يد مضمومة الأصابع مع مد الذراع فرآه لأول مرة بعد  حولي٣ دقائق من مشاهدته كوكب الزهرة وقدّرت أنذلك كان حوالي الساعة ١٨:٤٠ بالتوقيت المحلي،
- استمرت مشاهدة الهلال والتحقق منه لحوالي دقيقة كاملة تخللها انقطاع طفيف، ولم يتمكن رفيقه ولا أحدا فيما بلغنا من الولاية من رؤيته بالعين المجردة،
- كان الهلال ذا لون أبيض في السماء الصفراء وكان يشير بقرنيه إلى الساعة ٢ و الساعة ٧،
- بعد حوالي دقيقة من المشاهدة لم يتمكن بعدها الأخ الراصد من رؤيته مجددا.
تعليقي:
أ- سألت هذا الأخ عند لقائي به هل هو ممن يرى النجوم نهارا فنفى ذلك.
ب- أجدد ندائي لهواة رصد الأهلة بالعين المجردة من بلدان غرب ليبيا تونس الجزائر والمغرب: 
 رجاء أن يضيفوا في تقاريرهم ٣ معلومات: 
١- هل استعانوا ببرنامج لتحديد موقع الهلال أم لا؟ و ما هو؟
٢- كم دقيقة بعد غروب الشمس الظاهري تمت أول رؤية للهلال بالعين المجردة؟ 
(نود فتح المجال لمسابقة جهوية بيننا مع مراعات اختلاف المطالع طبعا) 
٣- في حال تمت الرؤية بالعين المجردة و بالآلة نرجو فقط التحديد: هل الرؤية بالعين المجردة تمت دون آلة أو بعد الاستعانة بالآلة؟
ج- شكرا جزيلا للمشاركين.

Mr. Abdellatif Fareh said: "الحمد لله و كفى و الصلاة و السلام على النبي المصطفى تمت رؤية الهلال بالعين المجردة من طرف صديق من الثقاة مع إمام مسجدهم و مجموعة من الحضور في منطقة قريبة من إليزي جنوب الجزائر."

Mr. ِِِArwinjuli said: "Its a bad and cloudy day in Medan City, its raining from yesterday until morning, but no clear sky after rain in the evening."

Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi said: "The new crescent of Rajab 1444 AH was not sighted on Sunday, January 22, 2023 from Assalaam Observatory at PPMI Assalaam, Pabelan Kartasura Sukoharjo Central Java Indonesia. The west sky was cloudy."



Iran

والهلال لم أستطع رؤيته بشكل جيد بسبب أنه اختفى بسرعة خلف البنايات المرتفعة ولم يكن هناك وقت كافي لرؤيته بالعين المجردة . 
علما أنه تم رؤيته بالعين المجردة من العديد من الراصدين في منطقة وسط المغرب وجنوبه "

Mr. Simwal  Jibril said: "I am currently out of the country but I received reports from other members of moonsighting committee and it wasn’t sighted in Kaduna. But we received positive sighting reports from Abeokuta, Dutse and Bauchi, the Sultan will declare Monday as the first day of Rajab."

Dr. Belal Alshammaa said: "لقد تمكنت من رؤية هلال أول شهر رجب من خلال المرقب بعد غروب الشمس بحوالي خمس عشرة دقيقة تقريبا، ولم أتمكن من رؤيته من خلال المنظار. الصور المرفقة واحدة من غير تعديل والثانية والثالثة بعد بعض التعديل لتوضيح مكان الهلال"

Eng. Qamar Uddin said: "Most of the sky was totally cloudy with a clear patch of sky near sunset position, but the moon was not seen. We hope to see it tomorrow, InshaAllah."



United States


1 . Time of observation: After sunset.Seen by others: ICOP member Dr. Javad Torabinejad from Blacksburg City in Virginia State mentioned that the sky was totally cloudy, the atmospheric condition was very hazy, the crescent was not sought by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Dr. Javad Torabinejad said: "This evening (Sunday, January 22, 2023), the crescent moon was not seen in Blacksburg, VA.  The sky was completely covered by clouds.  However, the crescent was sighted in Orlando, Florida and Houston, Texas (seen at 6:18 CST).  The two crescent pictures are from the latter location sent by brother Mohammad H."

United Kingdom


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Eng. Qamar Uddin from York City in North Yorkshire State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Eng. Qamar Uddin said: "I reached the Hilal sighting location about half an hour before sunset (directly from work) and Br Mohammad Zafeer Musa from York University joined me soon afterwards. The sky was partly cloudy but the sunset location was seen. We saw the Rajab Hilal about 10 mins before sunset with 20x80 binoculars (as both of us wear glasses) and about 10 mins later (after sunset) we saw the Hilal by the naked eye (and recited the dua), Alhamdulillah. We prayed Maghrib in Jamat and continued to see the Hilal for another half an hour before it went behind a bank of clouds. Today (23/1/2023) is the 1st day’s moon for the UK according to the rules of Shariah as it was not seen anywhere in the UK on the day before (22/1/2023)."

Dr. Javad Torabinejad said: "On Friday morning, using a pair of binoculars (7X50), I sighted the waning crescent at 7:26 EST (sunrise, 7:33).  The horizon was partly cloudy; if not because of the clouds, I could have seen the crescent earlier.  Since the time of sighting was very close to sunrise, I could not see the crescent by naked-eye, for the short time I tried."

Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi said: "The old crescent of Jumadal Akhiroh 1444 AH was not seen from Rowasiya Observatory on Saturday, January 21, 2023. The sky was totally cloudy."
