ISNA adopted the angle 18 for Fajr and Isha

ICOP Release Regarding

ISNA adopted Fajer and Isha Angles

There is a widespread rumor says that ISNA adopts the angle 15 for both; Fajer and Isha. However, we (ICOP) had contacted ISNA several times and they informed us that what is currently adopted by ISNA is the angle 18. Thus we have sent them an official request to confirm this piece of information, and below are our letters.

Dear Dr. Zulfiqar Ali Shah

The Secretary General  of Fiqh Council of North America,

I’m writing to you asking about the adopted angle by ISNA for Fajer and Isha, where it is widespread that ISNA adopts the angle 15, and some persons claim that they have official replies form your side confirming this information. However, on the other hand, we did receive replies from you earlier mentioning that ISNA adopts the angle 18 for both; Fajer and Isha, and you will confirm this information at ISNA’s website. Thus, I kindly ask you to provide a detailed and full answer for this point. Thank you.

ISNA Reply to ICOP

Assalamo alaykum wrwb Akhee al-Habib,

Last year the Fiqh Council briefly discussed the issue. The tentative consensus was on 18 degrees. It was decided to go with 18 until we have a thorough discussion about it in our next annual meeting in March of 2011. Some members were of the opinion that 15 or even 14 is possible in certain seasons but the majority was for 18. That is what is being followed at the present.

Wassalam,

Zulfiqar
