When to Observe Dhul Hijjah Waxing (NEW) Crescent ?


The geocentric conjunction (Geocentric New Moon) will occur Inshalla on (Monday 15 October 2012) at 12:02 UT.

Sighting the new crescent on (Monday 15 October 2012) and (Tuesday 16 October 2012) is shown in the below graphs using the program Accurate Times by Mohammad Odeh according to Odeh criterion. Where:-

According to the Universal Hejric Calendar (UHC), which is based on the calculated crescent visibility, the start of this month in the Eastern Region will be on Wednesday 17 October 2012 and in the Western Region will be on Tuesday 16 October 2012. Thus, the first day of Eid in the Eastern Region will be on Friday 26 October 2012 and in the Western Region will be on Thursday 25 October 2012. Kindly notice that the UHC is a pre-calculated calendar, which adopts a certain criterion to start the new Hejric month. Your country/organization might adopt different criterion to start the new Hejric month. So it is highly advised to read the UHC website before giving any judgment.

Germany


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. Usman Dukku from Marburg City in Hessen State mentioned that the sky was totally cloudy, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was not sought by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging



Nigeria


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. Yunusa Yakubu from Bauchi City in Bauchi State mentioned that the sky was totally cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Yunusa Yakubu said: "Here in Bauchi town the Sun is out of sight for almost 45 minutes before its setting time"



Tunisia


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Algeria


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Mr. Hocine Chikh Aissa from Ghardaia City in Ghardaia State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was superb, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Hocine Chikh Aissa said: "19people tried to observe The Dul hidja 1433 cresent from N'tissa station in Ghardaia South Algeria uesd two binoculars (07x50). The western horizon was Clear. The atmospheric condition (haze) near the western horizon was Superb, first seen by naked eyes was at 18:23."



Germany


1 . Time of observation: After sunset.Photographed: ICOP member Eng. Martin Elsaesser from Munich City in Bavaria State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not sought by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not seen by telescope, the crescent was seen by CCD Imaging
Eng. Martin Elsaesser said: "Conditions were not good this evening, with layers of clouds approaching from the west. I arrived at the observing site only 20 minutes before sunset and rushed to setup the imaging system. Despite the clouds, the imaging system quickly showed the crescent, which was visible for only 6 minutes, before it vanished in the clouds. I tried to see it visually through 12x50 binoculars and through the imaging telescope but did not succeed."

Mr. Abdul-Aziz Anyang said: "Mallam Yusuf of Odoomser, a suburb of the Greater Accra region saw it with his family."



Indonesia


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Mr. Muhammad Yusuf from Lembang City in West Java State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was seen by telescope, the crescent was seen by CCD Imaging
Mr. Muhammad Yusuf said: "The crescent had been detected/followed from 09:45 (local time) until sunset, sometimes interrupted by clouds. "



2 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi from Surakarta City in Central Java State mentioned that the sky was totally cloudy, the atmospheric condition was very hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not seen by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi said: "On Monday, Oct 16, 2012  the new crescent of dzulhijjah 1433 AH was NOT SEEN from Assalaam Observatory Surakarta Indonesia because rainy. We are about 20 persons, members of CASA, Kemenag Surakarta and Lecturers of IAIN Surakarta. The 1st of Dzulhijjah 1433 AH in Indonesia will begin on Tuesday, Oct 17, 2012 according to the Imkan rukyah criterion on BHR's Itsbat yesterday evening."



Iran

Seyyed Ghasem Rostami from Taft City in Yazd State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was very hazy, the crescent was not sought by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was seen by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging



Libya


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. Salem Sahid from tripoli City in tripoli State mentioned that the sky was totally cloudy, the atmospheric condition was very hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging



Malaysia


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. Kassim Bahali from Tanjung Bidara City in Melaka State mentioned that the sky was totally cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not seen by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging



Nigeria


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Mr. Yunusa Yakubu from Bauchi City in Bauchi State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Yunusa Yakubu said: "I have sighted the Crescent with naked eyes and have shown it to passers by about seven people. Musa Mallam Dina reported naked eye sighting from Takin Fulani Village in Tafawa Balewa LGA in Bauchi state among twenty others. Mallam Aminu from Yelwan Makaranta also reported naked eye sighting together with his students numering about fourty."



Oman


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Prof. Mohammed Al-Bussaidi from Al-Fulaij City in Muscat State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was seen by telescope, the crescent was seen by CCD Imaging
Prof. Mohammed Al-Bussaidi said: "The crescent moon was sighted an hour and ten minutes before sunset. The crescent was seen all the way until after sunset."



Pakistan


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. Alam Sultan from karachi City in Sindh State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was very hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Alam Sultan said: "Today (Tuesday October 16, 2012 = 28 Zul-Qa’dah 1433 in Pakistan)
I tried to sight the moon with two friends but it was not seen.
"



Saudi Arabia


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Mr. Saleh Al-Saab from Gaseem City in Gaseem State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was superb, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was seen by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging



2 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Mr. Samy Khadem-Al-Charieh from Fiqrah City in Madinah State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was seen by CCD Imaging
Mr. Samy Khadem-Al-Charieh said: "Josef and me could very hardly see the crescent, because there was some haze/dust in the direction of the horizon (as usual)."



Senegal


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Mr. Ibrahima Lo from Dakar City in Senegal State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Ibrahima Lo said: "I have seen myself the crescent 15 minutes after sunset."



South Africa


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Dr. Abdurrazak Ebrahim from Cape Town City in Western Cape State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Dr. Abdurrazak Ebrahim said: "The Hilaal was fisrt visible at 19.16 (14 minutes after local sunset from my home in the Zeekoevlei Nature Reserve, Cape Town."



Tanzania


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Mr. Zaffar Sheriff from Daressalaam City in Tanzania State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Zaffar Sheriff said: "DhulHijjah cresecent was seen about 10 minutes after sunset.
The high altitude, 27 hour plus crescent was not difficult to spot."



Tunisia


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Mr. Bilel Besbes said: "اعلن مفتي الديار التونسية ان اليوم موافق ل30 ذو القعدة وان غدا هو غرة ذو الحجة."



Turkey


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. Kadir Yücel from Alanya City in Antalya State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Kadir Yücel said: "I'm on vacation with my family in the south of Turkey at the Mediterranian Sea. I tried to sight the moon from my balkon but I could not see it."



United Kingdom


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Eng. Qamar Uddin from York City in North Yorkshire State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Eng. Qamar Uddin said: "On Tuesday, 16 October 2012 (29 Dhul Qa’dah 1433 AH) many people from throughout UK have attempted to sight the crescent moon (Hilal) of Dhul Hijjah after sunset. None of the groups were able to sight the Hilal, even though many places had clear sky conditions.

However, we  have received reliable sighting reports (Muhaqaq-Ruyat-Basari) from both Morocco Awqaf Ministry and Jamiat-e-Ulama, South Africa.

Therefore, the Wifaq/Batley Ulama have decided that the month of Dhul Qa’dah 1433 AH will have 29-days and the  month of Dhul Hijjah 1433 AH will start from Wednesday 17 October 2012, making Eid-ul Adha on Friday 26 October 2012, Insha-Allah. Eid Mubarak to all Muslims!

1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Dr. Javad Torabinejad from Blacksburg City in Virginia State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Dr. Javad Torabinejad said: "I arrived at my sighting location at 6:34 pm EDT (sunset: 6:42 pm).  Using a pair of binoculars (7X50), I started scanning the expected crescent location in a partly cloudy WSW horizon.  The crescent was first sighted by the binoculars at 6:36 pm and immediately by naked eye.  The horns were at 1:30 and 6:00 O'clock (1:30;3:00;6:00).  I followed the crescent till 6:56 pm when it descended behind thin clouds (moonset: 7:29 pm)."



Wed 17 October 2012



Pakistan


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Mr. Alam Sultan from karachi City in Sindh State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Alam Sultan said: "Today (Wednesday 29 Zul-Qa’dah 1433 in Pakistan) I and our all observers easily sighted the moon countrywide. Also announced officially. 1st Zhj 1433 is tomorrow i.e. on Thursday.
"



Tunisia

Mr. Bilel Besbes said: "كانت ساعة غروب الشمس بالمنستير حوالي السعة 17:40 وانتهى الدوام 18:00 ولكن فور خروجي من المدرسة تمت رؤية الهلال بوضوح من وراء البنايات."

Germany


1 . Time of observation: Before sunrise.Photographed: ICOP member Eng. Martin Elsaesser from Munich City in Bavaria State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not sought by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not seen by telescope, the crescent was seen by CCD Imaging
Eng. Martin Elsaesser said: "The weather was bad in the morning, so the old crescent could not be observed before sunrise due to clouds. The clouds got thinner around noon and i could easily observe the crescent with the imaging system, despite lingering haze. I could not see the crescent visually through a small telescope but did not really spend much time on it."



Ghana

Mr. Abdul-Aziz Anyang said: "The waning crescent was seen at a village (Odoomser) of the greater Accra region by Mallam Yusuf, one of our dedicated crescent sighters. "

Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi said: "On Sunday, Oct 14, 2012 we are ( Mr. Muflih Arisa Adnan and Me) tried to observe the old crescent of Thul Keaah 1433 AH from two locations. Mr. Adnan form Assalaam Observatory at PPMI Assalaam Surakarta, and I hold from Asy-Syifaa Mosque at Bendo Ketitang Juwiring Klaten, both from Central Java Indonesia. The old crescent of Thul Keadah 1433 AH was SEEN, first seen at 04:08 and last seen at 05:30 LT (UT+7). "

Not Seen: ICOP member Dr. Mohammed Hussain Ahmad from Bandar Seri Begawan City in Brunei State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not seen by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Dr. Mohammed Hussain   Ahmad said: "The first day of Zulhijjah 1433 will be on Wednesday, 17 October 2012 and hence Brunei will celebrate Aidiladha on Friday, 26 October 2012.


By the way, the observation result is for Zulhijjah 1433 and not Zulkaedah 1433 as indicated from the list of selection on date information."
