When to Observe Dhul Hijjah Waxing (NEW) Crescent ?
The geocentric conjunction (Geocentric New Moon) will occur Inshalla on (Thursday 01 September 2016) at 09:03 UT.
Sighting the new crescent on (Thursday 01 September 2016) and (Friday 2 September 2016) is shown in the below graphs using the program Accurate Times by Mohammad Odeh according to Odeh criterion. Where:-
- It is impossible to see the crescent from the areas located under the red color. Because either the Moon on this day sets before the Sunset and/or the topocentric conjunction occurs after the Sunset.
- The crescent is expected to be seen by optical aid only from the areas located under the blue color.
- The crescent is expected to be seen by optical aid from the areas located under the magenta color. In these areas the crescent could be seen by naked eye if the atmospheric conditions are superb and the observer is experienced.
- The crescent is expected to be easily visible by naked eye from the areas located under the green color.
- The crescent cannot be seen from uncolored areas, even though the Moon sets in these locations after the Sunset and the topocentric conjunction occurs before the Sunset, but the Moon is not sufficiently illuminated in order to be seen as crescent even by optical aid.
- Kindly notice that the below graph shows the possibility of seeing the crescent from areas between 60 degrees north of Equator down to 60 degrees south of Equator.

According to the Universal Hejric Calendar (UHC), which is based on the calculated crescent visibility, the start of this month in the Eastern Region will be on Saturday 03 September 2016 and in the Western Region will be on Friday 02 September 2016. Kindly notice that the UHC is a pre-calculated calendar, which adopts a certain criterion to start the new Hejric month. Your country/organization might adopt different criterion to start the new Hejric month. So it is highly advised to read the UHC website before giving any judgment.

Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi said: "The new daytime crescent of dzulhijjah 1437 AH was tried to be observed, but it's not seen even by ccd imaging on Thursday, 01 Sept 2016.
But today we got the Partial Solar Eclipse from the Team of Jakarta Islamic Center at Seribu Island. It was captured on 17:33 LT and the full disc of the sun was covered by litle of the moon."

Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi said: "The Rukyat Hilal of Dzulhijjah 1437 AH event was attended by the Team CASA (Club Astronomi Santri Assalaam), Castrosmalsa, Solo Astro Club, Team of URAIS Kemenag (ministry of religious affairs) for Sukoharjo, Surakarta, Klaten, Karanganyar, Salatiga, Mr. Saifulloh as Kabid Urais Binsyar of Kanwil Kemenag of Central Java and team, BHRD Sukoharjo and moslems in Solo Raya.
Based on the negative reports from all observation places in Indonesia, the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in the Sidang Isbath decided that Dzulhijjah 1st, 1437 A.H starts on Saturday Sept 3th, 2016."

Dr. Usman El-Nafaty said: "The weather today here in Bauchi, Nigeria was totally cloudy most of the day and rainy since after Asr prayer. In fact the same clouds prevented us from seeing the partial solar eclipse earlier in the day and due to the rains, our Masjid combined the prayers of Maghrib and Isha. Consequently there was even no need to look for the crescent as it was futile to do so. However according to the official count in Nigeria, today is 28th of Dhul-Qadah and so there was no official announcement to look for the moon till tomorrow In Sha Allah."

Eng. Martin Elsaesser said: "The evening hat lots of clouds and haze in the west but as the crescent was quite wide already i had hope of catching it some gap in the clouds. The imaging system made it easier than i had hoped. I did initial alignment on the very low sun and then moved over to venus vor adjustments and correct focus. Moving over to the moon immediately showed the crescent some twenty minutes before nominal sunset. We just kept tracking the crescent and could see it most of the time on the screen despite the clouds getting thicker. We then lost it and got it back a few minutes later in another gap in the clouds. I tried repeatedly to see it through a small telescope but could not. We went home with 400 images, raw data and complete log files after 30 minutes of observation. "

Eng. Martin Elsaesser said: "The sky conditions were quite bad in the morning, with lots of haze and high altitude clouds. I could do a quick observation of the young crescent with the imaging system despite some mechanical problems with the telescope attachment. The view was not very clear due to the bad weather. I hope for better skies in the evening."

Mr. Hashim Almoosawi said: "تحققت اول رؤية للهلال بواسطة ال CCD Camera في الساعة 10:45 باستضاءة 0.9% و ارتفاع 63 درجة. و بسبب الغيوم الكثيفة في الصباح لم نتمكن من رؤيته قبل ذلك الوقت. آخر رؤية كانت في الساعة 18:39 باستضاءة 1.6% وارتفاع 2 درجة حيث اختفى الهلال خلف الاغبرة و التلوث الضوئي. اما الرؤية بالعين المجردة فقد شوهد الهلال ابتداءا منذ الساعة 13:15 و لغاية الساعة 17:55 بفترات متقطعة من قبل اكثر من 30 شخصا في عموم المحافظة."

Mr. Turki Alamri said: "I started preparing my imaging system before moon rise with AOD value for 619 nm = 0.5 very bad sky condition i managed to capture the new crescent just one hour after moon rise but the image was not good so i kept my equipment working and tracking for three more hours to get a clear and good image for the new crescent with 807 nm IR filter "

Today 2-9-2016AD=29-11-1437AH is the sighting day for the month of Dhul-Hijjah.
I was in Pottuvil to arrange a sighting group.This area is situated in eastern province of Srilanka.The co-ordinates of Pottuvil is lat=6deg 53' N Long=81deg 53' E. I arranged a sighting group at a place called "Kalappukattu Bushra Mosque" which is very close to Sabeelurrashad Arabic College.I was associated by Moulavi Abdul Hai and Moulavi Najmuddeen (Humaidy).We were their 20 minutes before the Sunset.The horizon was cloudy.
The parameters are(at Pottuvil) Sun set:6.10pm. Moon set:7:06pm.
Lag=46minutes
The prediction of the astronomers=Easily visible by naked eyes.
The crescent was not sighted at Pottuvil But it was sighted At Kinniya by Faizal moulavi (Rahmani) and his group.
Based on his sighting Testimony it was decided to complete the proceeding month as 29 days and to start the month of Dhul-Hijjah on 3-9-2016 by the president C.G.M.H.C. M.Riyadh (Baari) along with A.C.J.U.and M.R.C.A.
The sighting day for the month of Muharram falls on Saturday 1-10-2016AD."

Today 29th.of Dhul-Qidah 1437 AH (02/08/2016) evening the Colombo western sky was cloudy, couldn't see the (Hilall) New Moon of Dhul Hijjah in Colombo. The Colombo Grand Mosque Hilall committee received some positive sighting from Kinniya north east city of Sri Lanka.Hence the committee decided to start Month of Dhul Hijjah 1437, tomorrow 3rd. Saturday September 2016. "In Sha Allah" Eid al-Adha will be celebrated on Monday 12th. September 2016.

My first visual sighting of the New Moon was at 7:31 PDT this evening and I actually saw it before the planet Venus. Jupiter finally appeared before dropping below the horizon.

Dr. Javad Torabinejad said: "I arrived at my sighting location (the Blacksburg Middle School) at sunset (sunset: 7:48 pm EDT). Except for a small portion of the lower part of the western horizon, the sky was cloudy due to the tropical storm Hermine. Using a pair of binoculars (7X50), I sighted the crescent at 8:07 pm when it appeared in a partial clearing covered by a very thin cloud. After a few minutes, at 8:13 pm, the crescent was in another clearing where naked eye sighting was possible. A friend joined me at this time. The horns were approximately at 2:00 and 6:00 O'clock (2:00;4:00;6:00). Through binocular only, we could see Jupiter very close to the right side of the crescent. At 8:26 pm, Venus was visible through the clouds to the upper left side of the crescent. At 8:30 pm, the crescent set behind a piece of cloud very close to the top of a distant mountain (moonset 8:37 pm)."

When to Observe Dhul Qeadah Waning (OLD) Crescent ?
The geocentric conjunction (Geocentric New Moon) will occur Inshalla on (Thursday 01 September 2016) at 09:03 UT.
Sighting the OLD crescent on (Thursday 01 September 2016) and (Wedensday 31 August 2016) is shown in the below graphs using the program Accurate Times by Mohammad Odeh according to Odeh criterion. Where:-
- It is impossible to see the OLD crescent from the areas located under the red color. Because either the Moon on this day rises after the Sunrise and/or the topocentric conjunction occurs before the Sunrise.
- The crescent is expected to be seen by optical aid only from the areas located under the blue color.
- The crescent is expected to be seen by optical aid from the areas located under the magenta color. In these areas the crescent could be seen by naked eye if the atmospheric conditions are superb and the observer is experienced.
- The crescent is expected to be easily visible by naked eye from the areas located under the green color.

Before sunrise.
Seen: ICOP member Eng. Martin Elsaesser from Munich City in Bavaria State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Eng. Martin Elsaesser said: "The simple old crescent could easily be seen with the naked eye. Sky conditions were good with some cold easterly wind."

Seen: ICOP member Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi from Surakarta City in Central Java State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was seen by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi said: "The old crescent of Dzulqo'dah 1437 AH was seen on Wednesday, 31 August 2016 from Sarangan Magetan East Java Indonesia by my me and my Rowasiya Observatory team (Ichsan Sani, Imam, Izzudin, Maryam and Zain)."

Seen: ICOP member Mr. Turki Alamri from Sewerqia City in Almadina State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Turki Alamri said: "The old crescent was a little difficult to see due to bad sky condition , i used a binocular when the crescent was not too much above the eastern horizon after that i managed to see it by naked eye."
