When to Observe Jumadal Al-Aakherah Waxing (NEW) Crescent ?
The geocentric conjunction (Geocentric New Moon) will occur Inshalla on (Sunday 30 March 2014) at 18:45 UT.
Sighting the new crescent on (Sunday 30 March 2014) and (Monday 31 March 2014) is shown in the below graphs using the program Accurate Times by Mohammad Odeh according to Odeh criterion. Where:-
- It is impossible to see the crescent from the areas located under the red color. Because either the Moon on this day sets before the Sunset and/or the topocentric conjunction occurs after the Sunset.
- The crescent is expected to be seen by optical aid only from the areas located under the blue color.
- The crescent is expected to be seen by optical aid from the areas located under the magenta color. In these areas the crescent could be seen by naked eye if the atmospheric conditions are superb and the observer is experienced.
- The crescent is expected to be easily visible by naked eye from the areas located under the green color.
- The crescent cannot be seen from uncolored areas, even though the Moon sets in these locations after the Sunset and the topocentric conjunction occurs before the Sunset, but the Moon is not sufficiently illuminated in order to be seen as crescent even by optical aid.
- Kindly notice that the below graph shows the possibility of seeing the crescent from areas between 60 degrees north of Equator down to 60 degrees south of Equator.
According to the Universal Hejric Calendar (UHC), which is based on the calculated crescent visibility, the start of this month in the Eastern Region will be on Saturday Tuesday 01 April 2014 and in the Western Region will be on Tuesday 01 April 2014. Kindly notice that the UHC is a pre-calculated calendar, which adopts a certain criterion to start the new Hejric month. Your country/organization might adopt different criterion to start the new Hejric month. So it is highly advised to read the UHC website before giving any judgment.

Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi said: "On Monday (March 31, 2014), we tried to observe to new crescent moon of Jumada Tsaniyah 1435 AH from Assalaam Observatory, Surakarta with all my students of CASA (Assalaam Students Astronomi Club). The New Crescent was NOT SIGHTED because the sun was covered by thick cloud at 04:55 pm, so we could not see the sun until it sets. The moon also covered by thick and wide cloud since 05:00 - moonset. The first of jumadal tsaniyah 1435 ah will be start on Tuesday, April 1st, 2014 according to the government calendar (Imkan Rukyat Criterion)."

Prof. Mohammed Al-Bussaidi said: "The sky was partly cloudy, aand a little bit of haze. We managed to sight the crescent moon using CCD before sunset at 16:45 PM (about 1hr 37min before sunset). However, we were able to sight with the telescope (eyepiece) about 18 after sunset."

Eng. Qamar Uddin said: "On Monday 31 March 2014 (30 Jumada Al Ula/Ummul Qura), I was visiting Dammam and tried to sight the Hilal of Jumada Al Ukhra, but was unable to do so as it was totally cloudy. However, I have been told that the Madinah & Shaqra groups have been able to sight the Hilal on that evening. I also joined a group of observers on the previous day (Sunday 30 March 2014) as a local formality, but the sky was totally cloudy/dusty. The sun disappeared from the horizon well before sunset. But even if it was clear, it would *not* have been seen as the moon had set before the sun on that evening. Please see attached photo of the western horizon as an example of a typical cloudy/dusty Saudi Arabia horizon!"

Mr. Milad Ali Ershaghi said: "Bismillah al Rahman al Rahim As salamu alaykum wa rahmatullah. Alhamdulillah my family (wife, three children) and I sighted by naked eye the new crescent moon of Jumada al Thani just outside our home in Richmond, Texas, USA on Monday, March 31, 2014 between 8:10pm and 8:20pm. After sighting the moon by eye, I took a couple of pictures to document the sighting. May Allah shower us with His blessings this month and accept this sighting from us. Ameen Milad --- Details of Sighting --- Exact location: Richmond, Texas, USA (Latitude: 29.64, Longitude: -95.65) Exact time: 8:10pm - 8:20pm Altitude of the moon: Approximately 50-60 finger widths above the horizon. Location of the moon: An azimuth of approximately 280 degrees. Orientation of the moon: The tips were at 4 o'clock and 8 o'clock (see attached photos). Crescent movement: It moved slightly down during the sighting. Number of adult witnesses: 2 adult witness (my wife and I)"

Dr. Javad Torabinejad said: "This evening (Monday, March 31, 2014), the crescent moon of the month of Jumada-at-Thania was sighted in Blacksburg, VA (Lat: 37° 15' 40" N, Lng: 80° 26' 56" W, and elevation: 646 meters). I arrived at my sighting location (The Blacksburg Middle School) at 7:39 pm EST (sunset: 7:43 pm). The western horizon was partly cloudy and the atmospheric condition was hazy. Using a pair binoculars (7X50), I scanned the suspected area, just above the sun and slightly toward its left. At 7:44 pm, the crescent was sighted with the binoculars and at 7:59 pm with naked eye. It was high but very thin with the horns at 3:30 and 7:30 O'clock I left the site when the moon disappeared behind clouds, prior to moonset (moonset: 8:58 pm). When to Observe Jumadal Al-Aula Waning (OLD) Crescent ?

- The crescent is expected to be seen by optical aid from the areas located under the magenta color.. In these areas the crescent could be seen by naked eye if the atmospheric conditions are superb and the observer is experienced.
- The crescent is expected to be easily visible by naked eye from the areas located under the green color.
