When to Observe ?

The geocentric new Moon will occur Inshalla on Thursday (02 January 2003), at 20:23 UT. On this day (Thursday 02 January 2003), it is not possible to see the crescent from anywhere on Earth. While on the next day (Friday 03 January 2003) the program Moon Calculator by Dr. Monzur Ahmed -according to Yallop criterion- showed that it is possible to see the crescent by optical aid from the Indian Ocean, Southern Saudi, and Northern USA, while it could be seen by naked eyes from Southern Africa, Southern USA, Central America and Southern America. Thus, according to the actual sighting of the crescent, the start of Thul Kea'dah should be on Saturday (04 January 2003) is most parts of the world or on (Sunday 05 January 2003) in the eastern countries. Kindly click on the below icon to see the visibility parabola as plotted by the program Moon Calculator

- Results of seeing the crescent, and the first day of the month in different countries will be added here Inshalla as we receive the reports from ICOP's members. If you wish to be a member in ICOP, or to know more about it, kindly click here.

It stayed 31 minutes after sun set. Although we used a computerized 10” LX-200, and we aligned it at the night before and we tested it with some stars, we could not see it even with this optical aid. The western horizon was partially cloudy but with thin clouds. Also, there were some gapes between them along the path of the crescent.
