When to Observe Rabee' Al-Awwal Waxing (NEW) Crescent ?


The geocentric conjunction (Geocentric New Moon) will occur Inshalla on (Saturday 18 November 2017) at 11:42 UT.

Sighting the new crescent on (Saturday 18 November 2017) and (Sunday 19 November 2017) is shown in the below graphs using the program Accurate Times by Mohammad Odeh according to Odeh criterion. Where:-

According to the Universal Hejric Calendar (UHC), which is based on the calculated crescent visibility, the start of this month in the Eastern Region will be on Monday 20 November 2017 and in the Western Region will be on Sunday 19 November 2017. Kindly notice that the UHC is a pre-calculated calendar, which adopts a certain criterion to start the new Hejric month. Your country/organization might adopt different criterion to start the new Hejric month. So it is highly advised to read the UHC website before giving any judgment.

1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. Hossein Janghorbani from Tabriz City in East Azerbaijan State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Hossein Janghorbani said: "Mr.Reza Janghorbani based in the city of Tabriz in East Azerbaijan province due to hazy weather, Not see the crescent moon."

Location: Damzad foothills in the East of Shahreza (latitude: 32 00 N, longitude: 51 52 E, elevation: 1825m from sea level, time zone: +3.5 GMT)
Equipments: Two sets of 15*70 binoculars, One sets of 20*90 binoculars, One sets of 25*100 binoculars, One compass.
Atmospheric condition: hazy.
Horizon obstacles: 2°
Apparent sunset: 16:50
Results: Moon crescent was not seen by naked eye, Moon crescent was not seen by binocular.

Brunei Darussalam


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Mr. Hazarry Haji Ali Ahmad from Bukit Agok City in Tutong State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was seen by telescope, the crescent was seen by CCD Imaging
Mr. Hazarry Haji Ali Ahmad said: "The western horizon was partly cloudy at sunset, of which, Saturn and Mercury were clearly visible above horizon.

The 22 hour old crescent was first sighted through a refractor and digital camera's CCD at about 15 minutes after sunset.

The moon sighting was held at Bukit Agok in Tutong and attended by members of the Brunei Astronomical Society."



Indonesia


1 . Time of observation: After sunset.Seen by others: ICOP member Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi from Surakarta City in Central Java State mentioned that the sky was totally cloudy, the atmospheric condition was very hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi said: "The new crescent of Rabiul Awal 1439 AH was not sighted in Sunday, November 19th, 2017 from Rowasiya Observatory at Bendo Ketitang Juwiring Klaten Central Java Indonesia. The sky was rainy.

The new crescent of Rabiul Awal 1439 AH was SEEN by my friend - Tgk. Isma'il Alfalaky and his Team from PSIF IAIN Malikussaleh Lhokseumawe Aceh Indonesia."

Mr. Agku Bolkhizan Ahmad Thani said: "The Moon crescent was seen firstly by telescope SLT90 Celestron + Canon EOS 70D at 6.08pm after 7 minutes sunset. Observation by naked eyes was tried but it was seen at 6.26 pm after sunset."

Seen: ICOP member Prof. Mohammed Al-Bussaidi from Al-Fulaij Obseravtory City in Muscat State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was superb, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was seen by telescope, the crescent was seen by CCD Imaging
Prof. Mohammed Al-Bussaidi said: "Very clear western horizon, and very high Moon elevation made it easy to sight the Crescent Moon this evening. "



Saudi Arabia


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Dr. Ayyub Patel from Abha City in Aseer State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Dr. Ayyub Patel said: "First sighted by binoculars celestron 15x70. then 5 minutes later could see it with naked eye. it was seen for around 20 minutes before it set behind mountains."



South Africa


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. 1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Mr. Zaffar Sheriff from Daressalaam City in tanzania State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Zaffar Sheriff said: "Ist Rabiul Awwal in Tanzania corresponds to 20th November 2017."



United Arab Emirates

Mohammad Odeh from جبل حفيت City in العين State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was superb, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was seen by telescope, the crescent was seen by CCD Imaging
Eng. Mohammad Odeh said: "تم رصد الهلال ضمن دورة حول تحري الهلال مع دائرة الشؤون الإسلامية والعمل الخيري بدبي وبمشاركة مركز الشارقة لعلوم الفضاء والفلك. السماء كانت صافية بشكل استثنائي، وكانت قيمة صفاء الغلاف الجوي 0.076. تمت رؤية الهلال بتقنية التصوير الفلكي ابتداء من الساعة التاسعة صباحا وحتى موعد غروب القمر تقريبا. بعد الغروب تمكن الراصدون من رؤية الهلال باستخدام تقنية التصوير الفلكي وباستخدام التلسكوب وبالمنظار وبالعين المجردة. "

Not Seen: ICOP member Dr. Javad Torabinejad from Blacksburg City in Virginia State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Dr. Javad Torabinejad said: " arrived at my sighting location at 5:33 pm EST (sunset: 5:08 pm).  The west southwest horizon was mostly cloudy.  I stayed there till 6:10 pm (moonset: 6:21 pm) hoping to see the crescent in the openings but without success."

1 . Time of observation: After sunrise. Seen: ICOP member Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi from Surakarta City in Central Java State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was seen by telescope, the crescent was seen by CCD Imaging
Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi said: "The daytime waning crescent of Shafar 1439 AH was sighted in Friday, November 17th, 2017 from Rowasiya Observatory at Bendo Ketitang Juwiring Klaten Central Java Indonesia.

The crescent was seen from both of eyepiece and ccd. The sky was very clear and very blue."



2 . Time of observation: Before sunrise.Seen by others: ICOP member Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi from Surakarta City in Central Java State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not seen by telescope, the crescent was not seen by CCD Imaging
Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi said: "The old creacent of Shafar 1439 AH was not sighted on Friday, 18 November 2017 from Rowasiya Observatory at Bendo Ketitang Juwiring Klaten Central Java Indonesia, the sky was totally cloudy.

My friend Abu Sholih at Ma'had Al-Umm Malang was able to see the creacent for about 2 minutes."

Mr. Turki Alamri said: "we started our observation me and dr: Sabry from Almajmaah observatory at 1:00 pm lt ,the old crescent was an easy hunt we also managed to see it before sunrise with naked eye 
AOD for 540 nm = 0.15"

Dr. Javad Torabinejad said: "Jupiter and Venus were sighted first; Venus was used as a guide to locate the crescent (Stellarium provided the relative position and distance).  The crescent was thin with its horns at about 4:30 and 6:30 O'clock (4:30;5:30;6:30).  Binocular was used to ascertain the latter data."
