When to Observe Rajab Waxing (NEW) Crescent ?


The geocentric conjunction (Geocentric New Moon) will occur Inshalla on (Thursday 07 April 2016) at 11:24 UT.

Sighting the new crescent on (Thursday 07 April 2016) and (Friday 8 April 2016) is shown in the below graphs using the program Accurate Times by Mohammad Odeh according to Odeh criterion. Where:-

According to the Universal Hejric Calendar (UHC), which is based on the calculated crescent visibility, the start of this month in the Eastern Region will be on Saturday 09 April 2016 and in the Western Region will be on Friday 08 April 2016. Kindly notice that the UHC is a pre-calculated calendar, which adopts a certain criterion to start the new Hejric month. Your country/organization might adopt different criterion to start the new Hejric month. So it is highly advised to read the UHC website before giving any judgment.

Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi said: "The Daytime waxing of Rajab 1437 AH was sighted on Friday, 08 April 2016 approx 3 hours before sunset from Assalaam Observatory, The Modern Boarding School of Islam ASSALAAM, Pabelan Kartasura Sukoharjo Surakarta Central Java Indonesia.

The observers were Mr. Wachid Ichsani, Mr. Darmawan Rhs, and Mr. Widi Adi N. 

This observation also supported by all members of CASA (Clyb Astronomy Santri Assalaam)."

Time of observation: After sunset.Seen by others: ICOP member Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi from Surakarta City in Central Java State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not seen by telescope, the crescent was not seen by CCD Imaging
Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi said: "The new crescent of Rajab 1437 AH was not seen on Friday, 08 April 2016 from Assalaam Observatory, the Modern Boarding School of Islam ASSALAAM, Pabelan Kartasura Sukoharjo Surakarta Central Java Indonesia because the west horizon was cloudy and hazy.

The new crescent was sighted by team of BMKG from several locations Ternate, Makassar, Manado, Ambon, Sulamu and Aceh."

Dr. Usman El-Nafaty said: "This evening here in Bauchi city, Bauchi State Nigeria, The weather was quite cloudy due to advent of rainy season hence the crescent was not seen. However there were several reports of positive sighting from various locations in the country.  May Allah (SWT) make Rajab, a blessed month for all of us.  Amin"



Saudi Arabia

Mr. Mohamed Irfhan Razick said: "Alhamdulillah, sighted the crescent of Rajab1437 at Colombo,Sri Lanka myself along with Sheikh Fahim (Ihsani) at 06:46pm local time. "

Mr. Abdul Rahman Razeen said: "Aalaikum. Sorry for the delay information.For the last 3 months i have been traveling far places for sighting and to regroup the sighting groups and the places.
Today 8-4-2016AD=29-6-1437AH is the sighting day for the month of Rajab. The crescent was sighted in Kinniya, Jaffna, Karaitive, Colombo and Marudamunai.
 I was in Karaitive and the crescent was sighted by me and Moulavi Zaeem. The co-ordination of the location is Lat;8deg13' Lon:79deg48'. Sun set:6.21pm. Moon set:7.22pm. We sighted at 6.38pm at an alt:9 deg. The Oriean:4-8 o'clock.
Hence it was decided to end the proceeding month 29day's and to start the month of Rajab on 9-4-2016 by the president C.G.M.H.C.

1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Eng. Qamar Uddin from York City in North Yorkshire State mentioned that the sky was totally cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Eng. Qamar Uddin said: "We were a group of 13 people (which included 9 members of York Astronomical Society) looking for the crescent moon of Rajab with naked-eye, binoculars and telescopes, but we were not able to sight the 32 hrs old moon, high in the sky, due to heavy clouds above the sunset position. However, we have received position sighting reports from South London."

1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Dr. Javad Torabinejad from Blacksburg City in Virginia State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Dr. Javad Torabinejad said: "At the time of sunset, the western horizon was cloudy but eventually became partly cloudy.  As I left the house a few minutes shy of 8:00 pm EDT in anticipation of sighting the crescent in the clearings appearing in the horizon, I sighted the crescent moon with naked eye (sunset: 7:50 pm).  Six other adults sighted the moon, as well.  The horns were at about 3:00 and 7:00 O'clock (3:00;5:00;7:00).  I ended the session way before moonset (moonset: 9:30 pm)."

Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi said: "the daytime waning crescent of Jumadal Akhirah 1437 AH was sighted by CCD on Wednesday 06 April 2016 after sunrise from Al-Buruj Observatory Kudus Central Java Indonesia by my friend Mr. Joko Prasetyo."
