In this page:-

When to Observe ?

The geocentric new Moon will occur Inshalla on Wednesday (19 May 2004), at 04:52 UT. On this day the program Moon Calculator by Dr. Monzur Ahmed -according to Yallop criterion- showed that it is possible to see the crescent by optical aid from North and Central America. While it should be visible by naked eye from parts of The Pacific Ocean .

According to the actual sighting of the crescent, the start of Rabee' II should be on Friday 21 May 2004 in most of the countries of the world and on Thursday 20 May 2004 in North and Central America.

The visibility parabola as plotted by the program Moon Calculator

- Results of seeing the crescent, and the first day of the month in different countries will be added here Inshalla as we receive the reports from ICOP's members. If you wish to be a member in ICOP, or to know more about it, kindly click here.

Results of Observation

  • Jordan:
    • ICOP member Dr. Tarek Katbeh: Not seen. " Two members of JAS (Tarek Katbeh and Moustafa Khalil) went to observe the crescent on the top of Ash-Sharah mountains near AL-Rajef City (220 km to the South of Amman) which is about 1670 m above mean see level, but when we arrived the sky were totaly cloudy!! We didn't even get our 10" LX200GPS from the car to do the alignment process!"

  • Algeria:

It was very thin that it was not visible to the naked eyes not until the sky was a little dark. The new moon was sighted by officials from Astronomy Unit of Survey Department and members of the Astronomical Society of Brunei Darussalam."
