Results of Observation
So far, the earliest sighting of the crescent was on Saturday 28 October from Mauritius by Mr. Hamade Aubdoollah. On this day, the crescent was also seen from Iran, UAE, Jordan, Nigeria, Morocco, Canada, and USA.
Friday 27 October
- Saudi: ICOP member, Mr. Saleh Al-Saab said: "The crescent was not seen, it was about three degrees above the horizon, the sky was not clear enough. Saturday is the first day of Sha'ban."
- Jordan: The western horizon was partly cloudy.
- USA: ICOP member, Mrs. Alphecca Muttardy said: "In the Washington, D.C. area, skies were crystal clear on Oct. 27,
2000, except for a haze along the horizon about 2 degrees high. The moon
WAS NOT seen by naked eye between sunset (6:15pm) and moonset (6:45pm). In fact, NO VERIFIED SIGHTINGS from continental North America were reported
to the Committee for Crescent Obervation. As the new crescent should grow
larger with the passage of time, a failure to see the moon in N. America
means that all claims of seeing the moon in the Middle East 8 hours earlier
were incorrect. ISNA seems to be taking Sunday, October 29, 2000, as the first day of Sha'ban."
Saturday 28 October

- Iran:
- ICOP member, Mr. Asadollah Khoddam Mohammadi said: "I saw the new moon of Shaban by naked eye on the evening of Sat. 28 Oct. 2000. In Iran, Sunday, 29 Oct. 2000 is the first day of Shaban"

- UAE: ICOP member, Mr. Abdul Karim Chalermthai said: "On 27 October, Abu Dhabi sky was cloudy. I went to the sea side to look for new moon of Shaban, but I couldn't see it. - Morocco: ICOP member, Dr. Hamid TOUMA said: "I am pleased to inform you that the Crescent of Moon was seen on Saturday 28 Octobre 2000 at Rabat at 17 h 50 mn, a few minutes
after the Sunset. As you know that the new moon was on Friday 27
October 2000 at 9 O'Clock 59 mn (AM) in the Moorning and in the
afternoon of the same day at 18 h, just after the sunset, the
Crescent was only under of 12 hours of life so it was impossible to
observe it in the same day (creteria of danjon), but on Saturday
at 18 h (PM) it has 34 hours of life, so it was visible very good.
So the first day of Shaabane was officially in Morocco
the Sunday 29 octobre 2000. Thank you."
- Canada: ICOP member, Mr. Gulamabbas Khakoo said: "Sighted the crescent of Shaaban on the eve 28th Oct. 18:25hrs in
Toronto."
- USA: Mr. Muhammad Hafiz said: "THE CRESCENT WAS SEEN IN QUEENS, NEW YORK AT 6:19 PM
(NEW YORK TIME) ON THE 28TH OF OCTOBER, 2000. THE
