When to Observe Shawwal Waxing (NEW) Crescent ?


The geocentric conjunction (Geocentric New Moon) will occur Inshalla on (Monday 08 April 2024) at 18:21 UT.

Sighting the new crescent on (Monday 08 April 2024) and (Tuesday 9 April 2024) is shown in the below graphs using the program Accurate Times by Mohammad Odeh according to Odeh criterion. Where:-

According to the Universal Hejric Calendar (UHC), which is based on the calculated crescent visibility, the start of this month in the Eastern Region will be on Wedensday 10 April 2024 and in the Western Region will be on Wedensday 10 April 2024. Kindly notice that the UHC is a pre-calculated calendar, which adopts a certain criterion to start the new Hejric month. Your country/organization might adopt different criterion to start the new Hejric month. So it is highly advised to read the UHC website before giving any judgment.

Mr. Abdul-Aziz Anyang said: "The New Crescent for Shawwal was seen by many across the regions in Ghana and reported on our MOON ISSUES ONLY platforms.  Barely 24 hours after the conjuction on April 8th, 2024 @18:21 GMT (U.T.), the crescent was seen but with a little dificulty. Most muslims will be praying on Wednesday, April 10th, but then our holiday for the Eid Fitr will be on Thursday, April 11th because of the uncertainty of whether the moon will be seen on its 29th day or not.  Alhamdulilah"

Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi said: "Biamillaah...

The new crescent of Shawal 1445 AH was not sighted on Tuesday, April 09, 2024 from Assalaam Observatory at The Assalaam Islamic Modern Boarding School, Pabelan Kartasura Sukoharjo Central Java Indonesia. The sky was totally cloudy.

The moon was captured by BMKG RI Team at Manado City. According to the report, the Itsbat Council by Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia declared that the 1st of Shawwal 1445 AH in Indonesia will start on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.

Results: Moon crescent was seen by 20*90 binoculars by Ali Janghorbani at 18:36 , for the first time.

The observation took place in Muscat, observation started before Sunset until Moonset @ 18:15 UTC+4. Weather was slightly pleasant around 32dC, with relative humidity at 21% with slight breeze at around 1.7km/h. The crescent was seen by telescope and photographed through iPhone's camera. "

I had set up my computerised telescope to help find the moon, but about 35 mins after sunset, the four of us (I, Shaykh Bashir, Br Mamnun & Br Tanvir from London) were able to see the very thin crescent moon with our naked eyes. We read the masnun duaa and praised Allah for making it possible for us to see the 24 hours old moon, high up in the sky. Many people throughout the UK have also seen it (from Scotland to the Southeast), Alhamdulillah."

Mr. Juned Patel said: "The Crescent Moon (Hilal) of Shawwal 1445, age 24:39 hours and illumination 1.39%, was captured and seen with the unaided eye after sunset on Tuesday, April 9th, 2024, from Fleetwood, UK."

Dr. Javad Torabinejad said: "I arrived at my sighting location at 8:00 pm EDT (sunset at 7:52 pm).  The western horizon was mostly cloudy and hazy.  I had to wait for the moon to appear in an opening close to the horizon.  My first sighting was at 8:36 pm in a small opening so that I could not distinguish the exact positions of the horns.  Soon, the moon disappeared behind the clouds.  I waited so long in hope of it appearing in another opening; it did not.  I left the area at 9:03 pm (apparent moonset: 9:20 pm).

Dr. Javad Torabinejad said: "I was at my sighting location by 6:24 am EDT (moonrise: 6:22 am).  The eastern horizon was clear and hazy.  Using a pair of binoculars (7X50), I started looking for the crescent.  My first binocular sighting of Venus and the crescent moon was at 6:36 am (they were aprt by a couple of degrees).  If not for issues with cell phone compass, they could have been sighted earlier.  For the short time I searched for the moon and the crescent with naked eye, I did not see them.  The horns were approximately at 7:00 and 10:00 O'clock (7:00;8:30;10:00).  I left the area at 6:58 am (sunrise: 6:58 am)."
