Results of Observation
So far, the earliest sighting of the crescent was on Sunday 19 August by JAS from Jordan. The crescent was also seen on this day from USA.
Sunday 19 August
- Maldives: ICOP member, Mr. Muthasim Fahmy said: "We could not have seen the cresent even if the sky had been clear under Ilyas C criterion."
- Iran: ICOP member, Mr. Hamid Rahkooi said: "although our horizon was 1.8 degree closed by mountains,but we start with sightung
mercury and we could see it at 20:02LT by telescope,then we look for crescent but we could
not see it.we were sighting mercury until it was 10min. above the mountains,also I could see
mercury at 20:25LT with my binocular.I was with Mr. Daneshi & Mr. Alireza vafa."
- Turkey: Germany ICOP member, Mr. Kadir Yucel said: "Salam from Turkey. I couldn't sight the crescent on Sunday (19th) because of a high mountain and clouds. I wasn't prepared for such a situation. I sighted the crescent easily on Monday."

- Algeria: ICOP member, Mr. Bankih Bankacem said: "The sky was in Mzab hazy and partly cloudy, this young crescent was not observed."
- Bosnia and Herzegovi: ICOP member, Mr. Kemal Sehbajraktarevic said: "Western horizon was partly cloudy. The crescent wasn't seen."
- Nigeria: ICOP member, Mr. Usman Dukku said: "Five of us climbed a small hill in the outskirts of the town (Bauchi) to sight the crescent but we did not see it even though visibility was fair."
- USA:
- ICOP member, Mr. Gulamabbas Khakoo said: "Sighted the crescent for the month of Jamad-ul-Thani local time 19:58 hrs on 19th Aug 2001 in Buena Park, California. Top horn pointing between 1 & 2 and bottom pointing between 7&8. It was quiet thin crescent. Used binoculars to sight. Thereafter you could easily see with naked eye. Salaams and Dua's ".
- ICOP member, Dr. Muhammad Hafiz said: "I SAW THE CRESCENT IN OPA LOCKA, FLORIDA, USA ON
19TH, AUGUST 2001, AT SUNSET-8:30 PM. THE HORIZON HAD PATCHY CLOUDS WHICH LATER OBSTRUCTED THE CRESENTS VIEW."
- ICOP member, Mr. Khalid Fituri mentioned that it was cloudy in San Diego.
Monday 20 August
- Indonesia: ICOP member, Mr. Suwandojo SIDDIQ said: "Western Sky is little bit hazy or cloudy. The crescent could be seen after sunset at 18:20, but disappear after 20 minute later, due to covered by clouds."
- Brunei: ICOP member, Mr. Mahadi Mohamad Tahir said: "The condition in Brunei these few days were very hazy due to the forest fire in southern
Borneo so no observation was made on 19/8. Jamadil Akhir starts on Monday 20/8."
- Iran:
- ICOP member, Mr. Asadollah Khoddam Mohammadi mentioned that he could see the crescent by naked eyes.
- ICOP member, Mr. Amir Hasanzadeh mentioned that he was able to see the crescent.
- Syria: ICOP member, Dr. Hasan Bilani said: "The sky was clear, I could see the crescent about 5 minutes before sunset."
- Morocco: ICOP member, Prof. Hamid TOUMA mentioned that it was cloudy, and said: "I come back from holliday summer, and I am pleased to inform you that the first day of Jummada AlThani was TUESDAY 21 AUGUST in Morocco."
- Kenya: ICOP member, Mr. Mahmood Essa said: "I regret to let you know that owing to cloudy weather conditions, I was
unable to sight the new crescent here in Mombasa today, Monday. However,
Tuesday 21/8/01 is our first day of the new month of Jumada Ath-Thani
here in Kenya."
- Nigeria:
- ICOP member, Mr. Usman Dukku said: "It was cloudy here at Bauchi. Even the sun was concealed by the clouds two hours before sunset, thus the crescent was not sighted."
- ICOP member, Dr. Sani Mustapha said: "The Western Horizon was patchly cloudly."
- Germany: ICOP member, Mr. Gerhard Ahmad Kaufmann mentioned that he could see the crescent by naked eyes.
