When to Observe Rajab Waxing (NEW) Crescent ?


The geocentric conjunction (Geocentric New Moon) will occur Inshalla on (Monday 30 December 2024) at 22:27 UT.

Sighting the new crescent on (Monday 30 December 2024) and (Tuesday 31 December 2024) is shown in the below graphs using the program Accurate Times by Mohammad Odeh according to Odeh criterion. Where:-

According to the Universal Hejric Calendar (UHC), which is based on the calculated crescent visibility, the start of this month in the Eastern Region will be on Wedensday 01 January 2025 and in the Western Region will be on Wedensday 01 January 2025. Kindly notice that the UHC is a pre-calculated calendar, which adopts a certain criterion to start the new Hejric month. Your country/organization might adopt different criterion to start the new Hejric month. So it is highly advised to read the UHC website before giving any judgment.

Eng. Martin Elsaesser said: "The crescent is very low in the sky for my northern latitude and will set with the sun today, so i had to attempt daytime observation. The sky conditions were very good, so the imaging system showed the crescent easily. By spending much more time i could also capture the earthshine with the same approach, despite using a very simple optics."

Dr. Javad Torabinejad said: "I arrived at my sighting location at 5:19 pm EST (sunset: 5:08 pm).  The western horizon was partly cloudy.  Using a pair of binoculars (10x50), I started looking for the crescent moon in the openings where the moon supposed to be.  At one point, I decided to change location to a nearby site with a better horizon view.  My efforts was not fruitful, however (moonset: 5:47 pm)."

Mohammad Mahdi Naseri Director of the Tahour Astronomy Club and Head of the Crescent Moon Sighting Team Reports on the sighting of the crescent of Rajab 1446 AH. Observations: Due to the cloudy weather, the crescent was not seen.

Observation information:
Date of observation: Wednesday, 30 Jumada al-Thani 1446, corresponding to 12 Di’ 1403, corresponding to 1 January 2025
Observation location: "Monte Stella" hill located in the northwest of the "QT8" area of ​​Milan, Italy.

Location of the observation site;
Latitude: Latitude 45°29 N .
Longitude 9° 9 E.
Elevation above sea level: 167 meters.
Time zone: +1
Weather conditions: Completely cloudy sky
Visibility about 16 km.
Wind speed 5 km/h.
Air temperature 4 degrees above zero.

Due to the amount of clouds, we were unable to observe the crescent moon.

Dr. Javad Torabinejad said: "I arrived at my observation location at 4:58 PM EST, with sunset occurring at 5:09 PM. The western horizon was mostly cloudy and hazy. My first naked-eye sighting of the moon was at 5:39 PM, when the crescent appeared at approximately the 2:00 and 7:00 o'clock positions (2:00; 4:30; 7:00). I was able to glimpse the moon intermittently through the rapidly moving clearings until I left the observation site at 5:57 PM. On my way home, and even after arriving, I spotted the crescent again at 6:00 and 6:10 PM, with moonset occurring at 6:58 PM."

Seen: ICOP member Mr. Amara GUERRAH from برج عمر إدريس City in إليزي State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was seen by CCD Imaging

Mr. Abdellatif Fareh said: "تمت بعون الله رؤية هلال آخر شهر جمادى الآخرة من طرف النادي الفلكي بكوينين مع العلم أن هلال اليوم الأحد 29 ديسمبر هو هلال السابع و العشرين حسب تقويم الجزائر. "

Martin Elsaesser from Munich City in Bavaria State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was not sought by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was seen by CCD Imaging
Eng. Martin Elsaesser said: "I could easily see the wide crescent with binoculars in the clear and cold morning skies, before sunrise. It was very low and far to the right of the sunrise point. 
The crescent was also observed with cameras. "
